The Department of Information Communication, the first department to win the National Quality Award in Taiwan.

The integration of information, media, and design is an inevitable trend. Yuan Ze University has won the "National Quality Award" and is the only university to have received this highest honor in Taiwan. The Department of Information Communication is the only academic unit in the university that has been inspected, and therefore has become a classic department of the National Quality Award. The department's Digital Media Design Group ranks first in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences in Taiwan. We were the first to propose the idea of establishing a Department of Information Communication (IC) in Taiwan, and started preparation in the spring of 1992. After being approved by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan, the undergraduate and graduate programs began enrolling in the summer of 1994. Since 1999, the enrollment scale has been expanded to 120 students per year, and an application for group enrollment was submitted to the Ministry of Education of Taiwan. In 2000, the department was officially divided into two groups: "Digital Media Design" and "Internet Communication". In 2004, the "Interactive Entertainment Technology" group was added. In August 2012, the groups were integrated into the "Design Group" and the "Technology Group".

A full range of faculty members

The department recruits about 120 undergraduate students and 10 general master's students each year. There are a total of 12 full-time faculty members, 4 associate professors, 7 assistant professors, and 1 assistant professor-level professional technician.

Distinct characteristics of the department

Our department uniquely emphasizes the integration of aesthetic sensibility, AI artificial intelligence, and technological applications with humanistic concerns and human-computer interaction. As the first department in Taiwan to combine perceptual design, media communication, and information technology, we aim to cultivate talents in media design and information application for the digital content industry. Our undergraduate program offers two tracks: the Design Track, focusing on multimedia design and production as well as information media planning and application, and the Technology Track, emphasizing the application of intelligent interactive information technology. Our graduate program concentrates on the integrated design and production management of digital content, as well as the technological integration and innovative service research of virtual entertainment. Our research covers various hot topics in digital media design, including intelligent image processing, human-computer interface design, digital learning, virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, audio-visual and communication, visual communication, and intellectual property rights.
